Notes
Burley paid taxes in Rhea county (Now Meigs) in 1823 in the Cottonport
Community. Served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Thomas Ramsey's Company,
U.S. Rifles. He enlisted May 13, 1813, at Newport, TN. He was wounded in
battle. Mary is listed in
"Living Widows and Survivors in 1833 of the War of 1812", and was living
in Decatur, TN.. Burley's Will was probated in Nov. 1826 and settled in
Aug. 1828. Jesse Poe was administrator. This Jesse may have been Mary's
father or brother, as A
Jesse Poe was in Rhea County for the 1830 census, aged 40-50. however a
Jesse Poe married Isabella Rhea Oct. 1, 1819, certainly a brother. He
would be old enough to be Adminstrator. Burley and Mary were War of 1812
pensioners. Pension
documents named all their children.
